the countdown begins to the day when i have to lift my feet off the warm sands of this sunny island and leave on a jetplane, facing a 12 hour flight halfway across the globe back to durham. as someone once said, change is always good, and to be honest, for once i actually agree with that. when i was in durham i couldn't wait to get back here, but once i'm here the heat is unbearable. oh great, so there's man's insatiable desire to have everything surfacing (margaret atwood) once again.

moving on though, met up with faiza just yesterday, and admittedly, it was fun! hehe... faiza is a dear, both in the uk and here. she's the reason why i haven't already started to self-combust in violet flames right there in the lecture rooms, always keeping me bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with her one-liners which are (most of the time) damn good! anyway, incidentally, she's also the lucky thing who managed to get coveted tickets to the linkin park concert in manchester just recently, as in, less than a month ago (arghhh). wish i could have gone as well, but then again, you win some you lose some. not too sure what i lost though. *thinks hard*

my computer was just taken away by the dell people today because they wanted to 'service' it. honestly you would have imagined the computer peeps to be more polite in the way they do things. not only do i have to make do with not having my laptop at hand for the next few days, i also have to make do with the comforting thought that the people over at the service centre might well be having a good laugh at the contents of my laptop. (another good reason to have such thing as the tort of invasion of privacy.) not that it's funny to me though, oh no, i take my work very seriously; but the thought that someone else, or rather, someones unknown may have free reign over the contents of my much-prized laptop makes me more than just a little worried. indeed, i probably will not lose more than a few winks of sleep tonight, with the odd restless turn in bed as well, but the gall of it all just infuriates me. to the best of my knowledge, all they wanted to check up on was how fast the laptop took to overheat, if it overheated at all, and how does that justify the need for them to call up and have the cheek to ask for my password (!!) so that they can 'assess' the system. the last guy who came to service my laptop not only took half the day, he made sure that we all knew that we owed him a living (how he did the math, i don't know) and when he finally turned it back to me to try it out and see that everything was all right, voila, my sound had disappeared. so, i really have doubts as to the actual effectiveness of this endeavour. how will my baby come back to me? oh bring back my bonnie to me...

anyone ever notice how the gatsby guy in the hair wax ads looks really strange? check this out and take a ganders at the leading man himself. "when you're happy and you know it, clap your hair" you can only trust the japanese to come up with such good ad campaigns, to be sure.
