Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece. ~ Filipenses 4:13, Nueva Version Internacional

ok, first things first, just to say a good hearty happy new year to everyone whom i haven't already seen over the new year period. it's a nice thing, to start a new year -- almost like having a clean slate. sometimes the end of the year just ends up being so tired and sluggish, to the point that it starts becoming increasingly cumbersome. like the proverbial snake, one is able to shed off the works wrought by his own hands in the year and make a step towards enlightenment, so to speak.

just on a lighter note: i happened to watch the nation's countdown thing at sentosa, and the compere had the gall to ask jacelyn tay what were her resolutions for the new year. was surprised when she didn't mention something along the lines of 'not wanting to be bankrupt again.' it's not too healthy for the reputation ain't it? a bit out of line on the part of the compere i reckon. anyway i better shut up, otherwise i'll just be accumulating my bad karma points up in heaven.

you know how they say the good deeds you do on earth build up the bricks that make your mansion in heaven? just hope that i'm not single-handedly destroying it brick by brick while other people have turrets, spires and gardens to their mansions... *thoughtful look* maybe that would be a good new year resolution to make.

the only new year resolution that i've ever made is to make the next year better than the one that has just gone on. i suppose i never made the effort to go beyond that, because the notion of making the next year better kind of encapsulates almost everything you can think of and list out. sometimes the simple wishes are better, i reckon, rather than thinking and thinking of something intricate and adorned to wish for. after much mulling on the fantasy situation where i should (and that's should, meaning the chances are slimmer than some of the anorexic girls you see at orchard these days!) get hold of a magic lamp, the moral that is there to be learnt, which is more precious than silver or gold is to always be careful what you wish for. simple, but true.

another thought: half the cavorting masses at sentosa at the countdown must have been intoxicated with beer (give that man a tiger) because there was free beer from 7 to 9 that night, hours before the programme actually started, meaning that anyone probably had free reign to have access to the stuff. goes to show how much of a crowd pleaser, teaser and attracter alcohol is. hrm. good marketing strategy i reckon. *more thoughtful looks*

all in all, that's about all there was to the new year for me. no big bangs, parties or fireworks. just my family and me, which in my humble opinion is the best way to spend occasions like that. as i said, the simple things.
