Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece. ~ Filipenses 4:13, Nueva Version Internacional

today has been a nondescript day for me. ok, so i went for my consti tutorial less than half an hour before i sit here writing this, and that was interesting enough, but still.

the light in my room keeps flashing on and off. it's very unnerving to see it flash on and off maybe twice every half an hour. the time before i hit my pillow last night was spent peering through the semi-darkness while i tried to cope without the benefit (ha, benefit) of the main light. squinting in the light of the desklamp which, indeed, is meant only to light a desk, is not going to do wonders for the myopia that i inherited from my dad. i just realised that without glasses or any other visionary aid, i am unable to see further beyond arm's length. everything else just looks like what jonathan calls 'a blob, but some blobs are nicer than others'. how true. in fact, maybe less than what is meant by the average 'arm's length' because i have short arms.

the week's tutorials are effectively over, which is a relief on my part because there are more pressing matters to attend to, such as the errant light in my room which has been giving me problems right from the start of this term, when it turned up to me all blown. this must be because my housemates keep on sparking the doorbell that hangs by its wires just next to the doorframe, helpfully pulled out by my ever-dearest jason, nick and jon, the three men in my life (who ring the doorbell and run away).

for everyone not in the know, sorry, i'm just about to indulge in some story-telling here. my room has a doorbell-like thingy right next to the door, and when pressed, it emits a clicking sound (very loud, especially when you're trying to get some sleep) and the light, if on at the time, flashes on and off. there is a 'day' and 'night' version as well, with the 'night' version flicking the lights on when the doorbell is pressed (presumably at night) and vice versa, yada yada you get the idea. our theory is that a deaf person probably occupied my room once, hence the need for said doorbell and a fire alarm connected to a light the size of america that flashes bright orange whenever the fire alarm goes on. so much for presumptions then.

the story thus far then is that the three aforementioned doorbell aficionados have been pressing the doorbell quite consistently over the last term, and there has been some spillover of this repetitive action to this term, although on a more subdued basis. the past two days have seen the lights tending to flicker on and off at maybe 2 minute intervals, and that my friends, is what is totally making me quite unhappy. that, and the fact that the reception is always full with other people demanding stuff as well only adds to that inward frustration. the worst thing is that the light goes off, then switches itself on again whenever i yell out in infinite annoyance 'jonathan/jase/nick*! the light is acting up again and it's all your fault!'.

how unfair?

so much for going on and on about a light that has a mind of its own then. life here just blows my mind.
